A custom chiminea cover is a waterproof cover cut and sewn to follow your chiminea from the feet up, belly and chimney included.
Seven measurements give it that shape. Three fix the overall size: how wide, how deep and how tall. The other four place the chimney. They give the height it starts at, how tall it is, how wide it is across the top, and how far round the belly is at its fullest. So the cover pulls in where your chimney narrows and stays full where the belly bulges.

Because a one-size chiminea cover is a tapered tube, and a chiminea is not.
Ready-made covers are listed by three numbers: height, top width and bottom width. A typical large one on Amazon is 122cm tall, 21cm across the top and 61cm across the bottom.
A chiminea bulges at the belly, pinches in where the chimney begins, then spreads out again at the legs. A straight taper can follow only one of those. Buy it to clear the legs and it hangs slack around the chimney. Buy it to hug the chimney and it won’t pull down past the belly.
The point where the belly ends and the chimney begins also moves from model to model. A squat clay chiminea and a tall steel one can stand the same height and share nothing else.
The cover in this buyer’s photo is that 122cm one. Its opening fitted round the chiminea, but the cover narrows above that and wouldn’t slide down over the body. Its hem ends above the feet, and the buyer gave it two stars and didn’t expect it to last long.
Between fires, an uncovered chiminea takes rain down its chimney and in through its mouth, and what that water does depends on what the chiminea is made of.
An uncovered chimney is an open pipe aimed at the sky. Rain falls straight through it to the bowl, and more runs in at the mouth.
Clay soaks up rain the way a flowerpot does. Light a fire in it while it is still damp, and the sudden rise in temperature can crack it.
When a damp clay chiminea freezes overnight, the surface starts to flake and fine cracks open around the mouth.
Cast iron and steel chimineas rust wherever water sits: in the base of the bowl, at the leg joints and around the chimney rim.
Sun fades and dries out the paint on steel and the sealant on clay. Once the finish lifts, rain gets straight to the metal or the clay underneath.
Autumn leaves and twigs drop into the mouth and settle on the ash. They hold the damp in the bowl and have to be cleared before the next fire.

Width, depth and height set the overall size. The height to the chimney, the chimney’s own height, its width at the top and the belly’s circumference then decide where the cover narrows. Rain that lands on the chimney top runs the full height of the cover, over every seam on the way down. HydroLok® seals each seam on the inside, over the stitching, so the water can’t find a way in at the needle holes. NylonSafe® is a premium waterproof fabric for home and light commercial use. The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem. It closes in around the legs or the stand, just below the belly. On an open, exposed patio, eyelets let you tie the hem down to something solid, or choose snap buckles that clip around the legs.
Vents set near the top let damp air escape from the bowl, so the inside dries out rather than sweating. Each vent has an EZ handle, so the whole cover lifts clear of the chimney at once. The fabric carries UV stabilisers, so sunlight doesn’t weaken it. On nights the fire is lit, fold the cover into its duffel bag. See all the built-in features.

We bought these clear tarpaulins to enclose our open terrace area, and they have been a great addition to the house. The clear plastic lets in plenty of light, so it doesn't feel dark or boxed in. The zipped door in the middle is super handy for walking in and out without taking everything down. Looking out in the morning, it makes a huge difference. It traps the overnight warmth and blocks early morning chills, making the space warm enough to sit out in comfortably. We have two of the covers, one at each end of the veranda. They fitted well and I have attached them to the wall to prevent them from blowing too much in the wind. They are clear so we can still see out into the garden. Unfortunately you cannot see the far end cover as out rather overgrown Kentia palm is in the way. If anyone would like to buy it please let me know, that’s the palm!

Initial placement of order a problem quickly resolved by the firm. Have been needing a hot tub cap for sometime as the insulated top allowed rainwater to flow.
