What This Is

A custom outdoor table cover is a made-to-measure waterproof cover cut to the exact shape of your table, with or without the chairs tucked under it. Ten shapes. Any size.

A garden table is a flat plane on legs. Almost everything else you cover has something solid holding the shape up underneath. A table has nothing in the middle. So the cover has to hold its own fall, and that is what separates one that lasts from one that fills with water.

Why Do Universal Outdoor Table Covers Never Fit Right?

Water does not run off a flat surface unless something makes it run. That is the problem with covering a table. Slack in the middle becomes a pool. A pool becomes weight. Weight drags the hem up the legs and lets the wind underneath.

Standard covers come in size bands. Each band is cut to clear the largest table in it. On a table that leaves excess fabric across the top, which is the one place you cannot afford it.

Then there is the parasol. Most outdoor dining tables have a hole straight through the middle. It sits in the exact surface that has to stay watertight, so it needs a reinforced collar rather than a slit cut through the fabric.

What Does an Outdoor Table Cover Protect Against?

Standing Water

Rain that lands on a slack cover has nowhere to go. It gathers in the middle and stays there. A cover shaped to your table holds a fall from the centre out, so the water runs off the edge.

Sun & Fading

Timber tops silver and split. Painted frames chalk, and sling seats bleach out long before they tear. None of that needs rain, which is why a table left bare through a good summer still ages.

Damp & Mould

Damp shut against a tabletop is worse than rain running off one. Timber holds moisture in the grain and along the board joints. Green and black growth starts there first, so airflow vents let it move instead.

Wind

Chairs tucked under a table are not a solid block. Air passes between the legs and under the seats, so wind gets inside a set cover in a way it never does with a bench. A hem sized to your real footprint gives it nothing to lift.

Frost & Winter

Water works into joints, screw fixings and splits in the grain. When it freezes it expands and opens them further. Every thaw lets more in, so a bare table comes out in spring worse than it went in.

Your Chairs

The chairs usually fail before the table does. Webbing perishes and sling fabric goes brittle at the frame edge. Cushions left out hold water like a sponge.

Which Shape Do You Need?

Table Covers

The table alone, in square, round, rectangular, oval or hexagonal. All five share one measurement logic. The outline changes between them; the drop barely does. Give us the length and width, or the diameter across, and how far down the legs you want it to come.

Table & Chairs Covers

One cover over the whole dining set, in square, round, rectangular or oval. The table does not change. What changes is the envelope around it, so we need the chair overhang and the height to the ground with them pushed in. A small round table with two chairs — a bistro set — is the smallest size of the round version.

Coffee Table Covers

Low tables are the same outlines at a fraction of the height. That short drop is the whole difference. A dining-table cover swamps a coffee table and puddles on the ground around it. Set the height to what you actually have and it sits clear.

How do I measure for an outdoor table cover?
It depends which of the ten shapes you have, and the configurator asks for them one at a time. A table on its own needs the length, the width across, and the drop you want down the sides. A table with the chairs tucked under needs the same plan measurements, then the height to the ground with the chairs pushed in, and how far they stick out past the table edge. Every shape has its own guide with the letters marked on a diagram. If none of the ten matches what you own, send photos through our free design service.
Can you make a cover with a hole for the parasol?
Yes. Tell us when you order and we will cut and reinforce an aperture where the pole passes through. Most people cover the table with the parasol taken out, in which case you do not need one at all. If you leave the parasol standing through the table year round, the aperture is the right choice. Either way the hole is the one place on a table cover where water can get in, so it is finished with a reinforced collar rather than a plain cut.
Do you cover the table on its own, or the chairs as well?
Both, and they are different covers. Six shapes cover the table alone — square, round, rectangle, oval, hexagon and coffee table. Four cover the table with the chairs tucked underneath, in square, round, rectangle and oval. A small round table with two chairs, the sort usually called a bistro set, is the smallest size of the round-with-chairs shape. The table does not change between them. What changes is how much of it you are wrapping.
Can I have an elasticated hem instead of a drawstring?
Yes. A drawstring hem is what we fit as standard, and you can choose an elasticated one instead when you configure the cover. It is also how you get a table top cover rather than a full one: pick your shape, enter the diameter or the length and width, then set a very short drop and choose the elasticated hem. The cover then sits on the top and grips just under the rim, like a fitted sheet, instead of falling to the ground.
Will a cover scratch a glass table top?
A loose one can. Grit and windblown dirt work their way underneath any cover, and a cover that lifts and shifts in the wind drags that grit across the glass. That is abrasion, and it is why a baggy universal cover can leave a glass table worse than no cover at all. A cover cut to the table sits still, which is most of the answer. Brush the top before you put it on and it is a non-issue.
Is a custom outdoor table cover fully waterproof?
Yes. The fabric is 100% waterproof and UV-stabilised, in either NylonSafe® 420D nylon or the heavier PVCArmour® 1000D PVC for exposed sites. Both use HydroLok® sealed seams — stitched and sealed internally so water cannot get through the seam lines. A table is a flat span, so the thing that actually matters is the fall: because the cover is cut to your table it holds a shape that sheds water instead of collecting it. Why does a table cover need airflow vents?
Because a cover sitting flat on a tabletop traps still air against it. Most garden tables are timber or have timber in them, and timber left damp under a sealed cover is where mould starts. Airflow vents are standard on our shaped covers and let that moisture move. See the built-in features →
Will the cover stay on in high wind?
A drawstring hem is standard and pulls the cover in under the table frame. A dining set is worth a word here: chairs tucked under a table are not a solid block, so air passes between the legs and under the seats and can lift a cover from inside. On an exposed site we would add snap buckles and elasticated corners. Grommet eyelets are available if you want to tie down to something fixed. See the fastening options →
How long does a custom outdoor table cover take to arrive?
Current lead time is 2–3 weeks from design approval. Nothing is held in stock — the cover is cut to the measurements you supply for your shape. We send a design drawing for you to approve before anything is cut, so production starts once you are happy with the fit. Timescales are estimates and can vary with how busy we are, so check with us before ordering if you need it by a particular date.
What warranty comes with an outdoor table cover?
Three years on NylonSafe® or five years on PVCArmour®, as standard. Adding the optional KuvrPlus warranty extension when you configure the cover takes those to five and ten years.
