Are your egg chair covers waterproof?

Yes, fully waterproof, not shower-resistant. Both fabrics are waterproof right through, and the seams are HydroLok® sealed seams: stitched, then sealed on the inside so water cannot get through the seam lines. NylonSafe® is 380gsm 420D nylon for home and light commercial use; PVCArmour® is 550gsm 1000D PVC for exposed sites and commercial use. Compare the fabrics .

How do I measure a hanging egg chair?

Measure the pod, following the hanging egg chair diagram in the measuring guide . A is the width of the pod at its widest point, side to side. B is its depth, front to back. C is its height, top to bottom. D is the width of the front opening at its widest. Measure the pod itself with nothing added: we add 25mm (1in) to the width and depth, and nothing to the height.

How do I measure a standing egg chair?

Use the standing egg chair diagram in the measuring guide . A and B are the width and depth of the shell at its widest. C is the height from the floor to the top of the shell. Can you make a cover for a double egg chair?

Yes. The double egg chair, sometimes sold as a two-seater, is its own shape in the instant quote tool, with its own measuring guide. Will the cover blow off in the wind?

The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem, pulled in under the pod or round the foot of the stand so the wind cannot get underneath. For an exposed spot, choose a stronger tie-down instead: eyelets to tie it down, or snap buckles that fasten round the stand.

Can I leave the cushions in the egg chair under the cover?

Yes, as long as they go in dry. The cover keeps rain off them, but a cushion covered while wet stays wet. Measure the chair the way it will be when the cover goes on: cushions staying in, measure with them in.

Does the cover stop condensation underneath?

It reduces it. No outdoor cover can promise to stop condensation completely. Airflow vents are built into every shaped cover to let moisture out while keeping rain out, so damp is not trapped against the cushions or the stand. Why Do Universal Egg Chair Covers Never Fit Right?

Shop-bought egg chair covers usually come in a handful of sizes: a single, a double, maybe a medium or large. Each size has to fit the biggest chair it's sold for, so on most chairs there's fabric to spare.

On a chair nearly two metres tall, spare fabric is a sail. Wind gets behind it and it fills, and the cover rocks the pod on its chain.

The drawstring at the bottom is there to pull the cover in at the base. On a cover that is too long, it gathers on the patio instead, holding nothing.

Which is how one reviewer's egg chair cover went, a little over a year in: worked loose, then torn. Give it one more windy night and it ends up in a heap round the base of the stand.

What Does an Egg Chair Cover Protect Against?

The woven pod copes with rain on its own. The cushion doesn't. What wears an egg chair out is damp in the cushion, sun on the weave, and rust on the steel that holds it up.

Rain Through the Opening

The pod is open at the front, and rain blows straight in onto the seat. The curve that shelters your back does nothing for the cushion underneath you.

Cushion Mildew

The cushion is the part of an egg chair that soaks up water. It stays damp long after the weave has dried, and a damp cushion is where mildew gets its start.

Sun on the Weave

Sun dries out the resin weave until the strands go brittle and snap. It fades the cushion too, where it sits in the opening the pod cannot shade.

Rust on the Stand

The steel stand and its chain are out in every shower. Rust starts at the welds and wherever the powder coat has chipped, then runs down the paint in streaks.

Dirt in the Weave

Grime and run-off from the trees settle into the weave and the cushion fabric. Left out over a season, it sets in and stops washing out.

Birds

The arch of the stand is a perch sitting right above the pod. What birds leave runs down the weave and onto the cushion, and it stains once it dries.

Hanging Egg Chairs

Standing Egg Chairs

One curved shell, open at the front, standing on four legs, a swivel base or a round base of its own. The guide measures the width and depth of the shell, its height from the floor, and the width and height of the opening. The cover follows the curve of the shell instead of sitting on top of it.

Double Egg Chairs

Gathered In at the Base
