Are your outdoor chair covers waterproof?

Yes, fully waterproof, not shower-resistant. Both fabrics are waterproof right through, and every seam is finished with HydroLok® sealed seams: stitched, then sealed on the inside so water cannot pass through the seam lines. NylonSafe® is 380gsm 420D nylon for home and light commercial use; PVCArmour® is 550gsm 1000D PVC for exposed sites and commercial use.

How do I measure my chair?

Choose the shape closest to your chair in the measuring guide section on this page and follow its lettered diagram. A is the total width, B the total depth and C the total height. D is the height to the top of the arm, or to the top of the seat on an armless chair, and E is the width of the backrest. Measure the chair itself with nothing added for room: we add 25mm (1in) to the width and depth ourselves, and nothing to the height.

What if my chair has arms?

Then it is a different shape with its own guide. A chair with arms is measured to the top of the arm, an armless one to the top of the seat. The two covers are cut differently around the sides, so pick the shape that matches the chair you actually own.

Can you cover a reclining garden chair?

Yes, a garden recliner is its own shape. Measure it upright, with the back where it normally rests. If it spends the winter laid back or folded, tell us in the notes and we will design the cover for that position instead.

Will the cover blow off in the wind?

A drawstring hem is standard and pulls the cover in under the seat so the wind cannot get beneath it. For a chair on an exposed terrace you can add elasticated corners, grommet eyelets or snap buckles. Snap buckles with elasticated corners is the pairing we reach for when a chair sits somewhere windy but still needs to come off quickly.

Does the cover stop condensation underneath?

Airflow vents are built into every shaped cover. They let moisture out while keeping rain from getting in, so damp is not trapped against the frame or the cushion. A sealed cover with no vents is how mould grows underneath.

Do I need to take the cushions off first?

You do not have to, but a cover made with the cushions on is shaped to them. If you sometimes bring the cushions indoors, measure with them in place and the cover will still go on without them.

How long will the cover last?

Can I have covers for a whole set of chairs?

Yes. Order one cover per chair and each is made to that chair's measurements. If the chairs are identical, one set of measurements covers them all. If you want the table covered too, that is a separate outdoor table cover .

Do you cover chairs that stack?

Yes, but a stack takes a different cover: one tall cover over the whole stack, measured to its stacked height, rather than one cover per chair. Ask us and we will design it to the stack you have.

How long does delivery take?

What This Is

A custom outdoor chair cover is a waterproof cover built from the measurements of one particular chair, so it follows that frame and nobody else's. Most patio chair covers come in one or two sizes and are left to find a shape on whatever chair they land on. These outdoor chair covers start from the shape your chair already has.

Why Do Universal Outdoor Chair Covers Never Fit Right?

A universal cover is sized to the widest part of a chair and nowhere else. On most chairs that is the arms, or the seat if there are no arms. The backrest above is narrower, and nobody asks how wide it is.

So the top of the cover hangs off the back like a shirt on a wire hanger. The spare fabric slides down into the seat, the one flat surface a chair has. Rain gathers in that slack and sits there, pressing down on the seat below.

Wind finds the same slack at the back and fills it like a sail. The hem lifts, the cover climbs, and one gust takes it off. That is how a pack of universal garden chair covers ends up in a heap against the fence after the first windy night.

What Does an Outdoor Chair Cover Protect Against?

Six things wear an outdoor chair out: standing water, rust, damp, sun, wind, and what drops from the trees above it. Nearly all of them start at the seat and work outwards.

Puddles in the Seat

A sling or woven seat dips in the middle, and rain collects in the dip. A cushion on top takes that water in and holds it.

Rust at the Welds

Steel chairs rust at the welds and where the feet stand in the wet, because water lingers longest in those joints. The powder coat lifts there first, and the orange follows.

Damp & Mould

Cushions, slings and woven seats stay wet long after the frame has dried. Mould starts in the seams and the weave, where the sun never reaches.

Sun & Fading

Sun bleaches cushions and powder coat on whichever side faces it. Resin turns chalky and brittle, and bare teak goes silver-grey inside a summer.

Wind

Most outdoor chairs are light enough for a hard gust to tip over. What the wind carries does the slower damage: grit, leaves and petals blown into the seat and left there to rot.

Birds & Sap

Chairs end up under trees, beside feeders and along fences where birds perch. Droppings etch timber and stain fabric, and sap from the branches above sets hard on the seat.

Which Chair Do You Have?

Most chair covers for garden chairs come in one shape. We make seven: five kinds of dining chair, the garden recliner and the outdoor stool. Those are the common ones, not the limit. Dining Chairs With Arms

A straight back, a curved back, or a barrel back that sweeps round into the arms. The cover runs down the arms to the front legs and takes in the backrest at its own width, not the width of the arms.

Armless Dining Chairs

A straight back, or an open back with a gap above the seat. With no arms the seat is the widest point, so the cover is shaped to the seat and narrows to the backrest above it.

Garden Recliners

A garden recliner has a taller back than a dining chair and sits lower at the front. Garden recliner chair covers follow that angle instead of stretching a dining-chair shape over it.

Outdoor Stools

An outdoor stool, bar height or low, has no back to fit around. The cover drops over the seat and follows the legs down.

What Happens to an Uncovered Outdoor Chair?

An uncovered outdoor chair ages from the seat outwards, and slowly enough that nobody notices until a guest goes to sit down. It happens under a cover that blew off or held water in the seat, the same as it does to a chair with nothing on it.

The Measurement Universal Covers Skip

We work from the total width, depth and height, the height to the arm or the seat, and the width of the backrest. That last one is the measurement a universal cover never asks for, and it is why the top of this one sits close. Nothing goes into production until you have approved the design.

Held Down at the Seat

With the back shaped to its own width, there is no spare fabric up top for a gust to fill. A drawstring hem pulls in under the seat rail and holds the cover there. For an exposed terrace there are tie-down options too: elasticated corners, eyelets and snap buckles.

Airflow vents let damp escape from under the cover, so the seat dries out. EZ handles — grab handles built into the vent structure — lift it off in one move when you want to sit.
