What This Is
A custom outdoor rocking chair cover is a waterproof cover built around one rocking chair, from the top of its back to the tips of its runners.
Rocking chairs rarely come indoors. They are heavy, awkward to carry through a door, and they look right where they are. So they stay out through every season, and the weather has years to work on them.
Because they come in a few set sizes, and rocking chairs come in far more shapes than that.
One reviewer measured her rocking chair at 45 inches high, 32 deep and 20 wide, then ordered the size that should have reached the floor. As the photo shows, it stops well short, leaves the runners and lower legs bare, and sits so loose that a good wind could blow it away.
That happens because rocking chairs vary from one model to the next. Backs are tall or short, upright or leaning. Runners stick out a little past the legs, or a long way. A cover made in two or three set sizes fits the few models it was designed around, and leaves the rest short and loose.
A cover can be the right size on the label and still not fit your rocking chair.
What Does a Rocking Chair Cover Protect Against?
Most damage to a bare rocking chair starts where water can sit: on the flat arm tops, in the joints and at the tips of the runners. Sun, frost, birds and blown leaves do the rest.
Sun on the Arms
The flat tops of the arms face the sky all day. The sun bleaches the stain or paint there first. Then the grain dries out and opens into fine cracks.
Rain at the Runners
The runners are the only part of the chair that touches the ground. Their tips are end grain, and end grain soaks up standing water like a wick.
Damp in the Joints
Every spindle and leg is set into a joint, and rain finds all of them. Water sits in a joint long after the surface has dried, and the timber around it goes soft.
Frost in the Cracks
Water that gets into a cracked finish freezes on a cold night. The ice prises the crack wider, and the next thaw lets more water in.
Birds and Pollen
A porch rocker often sits under the eaves or beside a tree. Pollen dusts the seat, and bird droppings land on the arms and etch the finish if they stay.
Leaves in the Slats
Wind carries leaves and grit into the gaps between the slats and spindles. Packed in there, they keep the wood damp and stain it dark.
Where Does Your Rocking Chair Sit?
On a covered porch, a rocking chair is out of the rain that falls straight down. It still gets the rain the wind drives in under the roof, and the low evening sun. On an open deck, a patio or a lawn, it gets everything.
Where it sits decides which of our two fabrics to choose. On a covered porch, the lighter fabric is plenty. On an open deck, a lawn or a roof terrace, go for the heavy-duty one.

A waterproof fabric only keeps the rain out if the seams do too. Every seam is a HydroLok® sealed seam, stitched and then sealed on the inside so water cannot get through the seam lines. Stays Put in the Wind
The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem. It pulls the bottom of the cover in round the runners, so the wind has no loose edge to get under. Where the chair stands out in the open, on a deck or a terrace, pick a stronger tie-down instead: eyelets for tying the cover down, or snap buckles that clip round the legs.

Built for Years Outside
Both fabrics are UV-stabilised. Vents let moist air out, so the timber underneath can dry between showers. EZ handles, grab handles built into the vent structure, make it quick to lift the cover off when you want to use the chair. Once it is off, it packs into a duffel bag. Will this cover fit my rocking chair?
Yes. We make it from your chair's own measurements, not to a size printed on a packet. Measure the chair with the rocking chair guide and put the numbers into the instant quote tool to see the price. Every order is reviewed either way: we look at your measurements and any photos you send, and check anything that does not add up with you.
Does the cover reach down over the runners?
Yes. The rocking chair guide measures the chair at floor level: the width across the runners, and their length from the front tip to the back tip. The height is measured from the floor too. So the cover is made to come down over the runners, not to stop at the seat.
Are your rocking chair covers waterproof?
Yes. The fabric and the seams are both 100% waterproof, not just shower-resistant. Every seam is a HydroLok® sealed seam: stitched, then sealed on the inside so water cannot get through the seam lines. NylonSafe® is 380gsm 420D nylon for home and light commercial use; PVCArmour® is 550gsm 1000D PVC for exposed sites and commercial use. Compare the fabrics.
How do I measure my rocking chair?
Open the rocking chair diagram in the measuring guide. It asks for seven measurements. A is the total width across the runners. B is the length of the runners, front tip to back tip. C is floor to the top of the backrest. D is the front of the arm to the back of the backrest. E is floor to the top of the arm. F is the width across the top of the backrest. G is the width between the arms. Measure the chair as it is, with no extra allowance. We add 25mm (1in) to the width and the depth for an easy fit, and leave the height exactly as you give it.
Does the cover stay put in a strong wind?
Yes. The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem, which you pull tight round the runners once the cover is on. Somewhere exposed, such as a hilltop garden, a stronger tie-down holds it harder: eyelets let you tie it to something solid, and snap buckles clip it round the legs.
Can I leave the seat pad on under the cover?
Yes, if that is how you want it covered. Measure the chair with the pad on or off, whichever you prefer, and we make the cover to suit. Only cover a pad that is dry, because a cover keeps rain out but cannot dry a pad that is already wet.
Will damp build up under the cover?
A fitted cover cuts it right down. Every shaped cover has built-in airflow vents that let moist air escape but stop rain coming in, so damp does not sit against the wood. No outdoor cover can rule condensation out altogether: it can still form if the chair goes under wet, or on a night when the temperature drops sharply. More on condensation and airflow.
How long will a rocking chair cover last?
Each fabric carries its own warranty. NylonSafe®, our waterproof fabric for home and light commercial use, is covered for 3 years. PVCArmour®, the heavy-duty fabric for exposed and commercial sites, is covered for 5. The KuvrPlus warranty extension raises them to 5 and 10 years. The warranty page has the full terms.
What if my chair does not rock?

Not only are these covers fantastic. I purchased 3 covers for my very spoilt rabbit to keep her cosy over the cold winter months. I have to say the customer service from this company is 1st class. We have two of the covers, one at each end of the veranda. They fitted well and I have attached them to the wall to prevent them from blowing too much in the wind. They are clear so we can still see out into the garden. Unfortunately you cannot see the far end cover as out rather overgrown Kentia palm is in the way. If anyone would like to buy it please let me know, that’s the palm!
Initial placement of order a problem quickly resolved by the firm. Have been needing a hot tub cap for sometime as the insulated top allowed rainwater to flow. Nothing available locally (Cyprus), found the firm via internet search. As expected shipping and customs clearance took some time with transit via France and Italy but courier was the first delivery to my house door in a small village, usually I have to collect. As for the item, at first look delighted. Robust with sealed seams and drawstring to prevent wind disturbance. Waiting patiently to confirm, as I expect, the cap is waterproof, also looks great as can be seen in the picture. Thanks.

Made to measure cover for the wall of our Bike Port. The wall is full of holes and loose stones that fall on my bike. Does the job of keeping the wind out and my bike clean and dry. Good quality thick material. Delivered quickly.

Initially I purchased some plastic sheets from Amazon, put the up and thought 'job done'. The sheets became discoloured, they constantly made a noise as they blew around and in the end they just tore apart. I then decided to do the job properly by looking into professional custom covers. Exactly what I wanted, I'm very pleased with the clear screens and the customer support is some of best I ever come across.
The screens were a bit creased when I unpacked them but as soon as they warmed up in the house the creased disappeared. The day I put them up was a bit cold and they were a bit awkward to line up. Luckily the sun came out which made the job went a lot easier. There has been a couple of really windy days since fitting and they stood up to it very well.
