How do I measure my outdoor sofa for a cover?

Do you cover a corner sofa in one piece or in sections?

One piece, over the whole sofa as it stands. Measure it in the arrangement it will spend the winter in - if you move a modular sofa around, the cover fits the layout it was drawn to and not the others.

Can you make a cover for a curved or half-moon sofa?

Yes. A curved sofa has no straight edges, so a flat panel is slack across the middle and tight round the arc no matter what size you buy. We draw the cover to the curve you actually have.

Should I leave the cushions on underneath?

You can, and most covers are measured that way. Cushions add height and depth, so measure with them where they normally sit and the cover comes back to fit over them.

Is a custom outdoor sofa cover fully waterproof?

Ours is. Both fabrics are 100% waterproof and UV-stabilised, and both use sealed seams so water cannot get through the stitch lines. Not every cover sold as waterproof is - a fabric advertised as breathable cannot also be fully waterproof, which is why ours are not breathable and we fit airflow vents instead.

Will water sit on top of the cover?

On a sofa it can, and that is the thing a fitted cover is for. The fabric spans from the top of the back down to the front edge, with the seat sitting lower and a void above it - so a loose cover has somewhere to sag, and water collects where it sags. A cover drawn to your sofa has no slack in that span.

What about the gap underneath the sofa?

That is where wind gets in. Most outdoor sofas stand on legs with open space beneath, so air comes up inside the cover from below rather than catching the edge. The hem is sized to the real footprint so there is nothing loose for it to lift.

How does the cover stay on in high wind?

A drawstring hem is what we fit as standard. For exposed sites you can choose snap buckles and elasticated corners instead when you configure the cover.

My sofa isn't one of the shapes listed. Can you still make a cover?

Yes. Any shape, any size - the ones in the configurator are the common ones, not the limit. Send photos and measurements through the free design service and we will draw it.

Current lead time is 2–3 weeks from design approval. Nothing is held in stock — the cover is drawn to the measurements you send for your shape. You get that drawing back to approve before anything is cut, so production starts once you are happy with it. Timescales are estimates and vary with how busy we are, so check with us before ordering if you need it by a particular date.

What warranty comes with an outdoor sofa cover?

Three years on NylonSafe® or five years on PVCArmour®, as standard. Adding the optional KuvrPlus warranty extension when you configure the cover takes those to five and ten years. KuvrPlus is our extended cover plan — it covers fabric degradation, seam failure and manufacturing defects for longer. What This Is

A custom outdoor sofa cover is a waterproof cover made to the measurements of one sofa: yours. Corner, curved, U-shape or straight — one piece, or a modular set covered as part of the wider patio furniture range. If your shape is not on the configurator, just get in touch.

Over a sofa on its own, the cover follows the back and the arms and drops to wherever you want it to stop — the legs, or the ground. Over a corner or a modular set, it has to turn every corner and still reach the ground on each run. That is why we ask which shape you have first.

Why Do Universal Outdoor Sofa Covers Never Fit Right?

Nothing about a sofa is one measurement. There is a seat height, a back height, an arm height, and on a corner set a second run at right angles to the first. A size-band cover has to clear the tallest and widest of those, so everywhere else it is oversized.

That slack gathers in one place. The fabric spans from the top of the back to the front edge, with the seat lower and a void above it. Water collects in that span, and the weight of it drags the hem up the legs.

A corner sofa makes it worse. The two runs are rarely the same length or depth, so a rectangular cover can only bunch where they meet — the lowest point, where the water already is.

What Does an Outdoor Sofa Cover Protect Against?

Six things work on a garden sofa across the year. The cushions take the worst of it, because they hold whatever lands on them.

Rain & Standing Water

Rain runs off the back of a sofa and lands on the seat. Under a loose cover it has a void to sit in, and it gets heavier every hour. A cover with no slack across that span has nowhere to hold it.

Damp & Mould

Shut a wet sofa under a cover and the damp stays with it. Cushions hold it longest, and mould follows the seams and the piping first.

Sun & Fading

Outdoor upholstery goes chalky and pale, and it does it unevenly. Lift a cushion after a summer and the strip underneath is still the colour the rest of it used to be.

Wind

Most outdoor sofas stand on legs, so wind gets up inside the cover from underneath. Once it lifts, rain and grit get in behind it. A hem sized to the real footprint gives it nothing to fill.

Frost & Winter

Damp cushions freeze solid, and the foam inside breaks down where the ice forms. Water sitting in the frame joints expands as it freezes and works them loose over a winter.

Birds & Sap

Sap and droppings land on the cushions and go into the weave, where they set. Bird mess is acidic, so on rattan or timber it marks the finish as well.

Which Shape Do You Need?

L-Shape & Corner Sofas

Two runs of seating meeting at a corner, armless or with arms, and a chaise end at either side. Measure each run, the depth of each, and the height to the ground.

Curved Sofas

A continuous arc rather than an angle — crescent, semicircle or horseshoe. Measure around the curve rather than across it, then the depth and the height.

U-Shape Sofas

Three runs of seating around an open middle. Measure each run, the gap between the two ends, and the height.

Straight Sofas

One run of seating, two seats or ten, armless or with an arm at each end. Give us the width, the depth and the height.
