What Is a Custom Rabbit Hutch Cover?

A custom rabbit hutch cover is a clear PVC screen, cut to the size of your hutch or run and fixed over the exposed mesh with eyelets and ties. It is not a wrap and not a tarp over the roof — it is a fitted window against the weather. It keeps wind and rain off your rabbit. It lets the light through. Your bunny stays dry and can still see the garden — and you can still see your bunny.

Why Don't Universal Hutch Covers Fit?

Shop-bought hutch covers are made for shop-bought hutches. Look at the listings: a cover for the Chartwell, for the Bluebell, for a 5ft Foxglove Apex. If your hutch is one of those models, the maker's cover will fit it. Buy that one.

Most hutches aren't. They're second-hand, or the model was discontinued years ago. They're self-built, or extended with a run bolted on the side. An apex roof sheds water where a pent roof won't. A two-storey hutch has a ramp in the way. A universal cover has to guess at all of it. So it bags where it's loose, gaps where it's tight, and pools water in the sag.

What Does a Rabbit Hutch Cover Protect Against?

Rabbits cope with British winters better than most owners expect — as long as they stay dry and out of the wind. The cover's job is exactly that.

Driven rain

The mesh front is open to whatever the wind carries. Driven rain goes straight through it, onto the bedding and the rabbit. A screen stops it at the panel.

Wind and draughts

Draughts run at floor level, where your rabbit sits. A screen over the exposed side takes the wind out of the hutch without sealing it up.

Wet bedding

Bedding that gets rained on stays damp for days in winter. Damp bedding chills a rabbit through the night. Dry bedding is the whole game.

Cold snaps

A dry rabbit handles a frost. A wet one struggles. Keeping the rain and wind off is most of keeping a rabbit comfortable outdoors.

Which Hutch or Run Do You Have?

Most screens we make go on the front of a hutch. A flat panel sits over the mesh, sized to the opening, and ties through eyelets so it holds in the wind. The rest go onto runs. Side panels suit a low run or an ark. Longer drops suit a walk-in run. Combined units get covered as one, hutch and run together.

Shop hutches come in 4ft, 5ft and 6ft widths. Plenty of enclosures don't. It makes no difference here. A screen is a flat panel made to the width and drop you give us — one panel or several, hutch or run, apex or pent, one storey or two.
