Do I measure one chair or the whole stack?

The whole stack, standing the way you will leave it. The seats climb in steps at the front and the backrests drop in steps at the rear, so the guide asks for one height at the front and one at the back, on top of the stack's full width, depth and height.

How many chairs will it cover?

As many as you stack. Build the stack you want covered and measure it. Whatever height that stack reaches, the cover reaches too. Three chairs and nine chairs are simply two different covers.

My chairs have arms. Which shape do I pick?

Chair Stack With Arms. The armrests stand out in front of the seats and climb with the stack, so they set the front of the cover. Chairs without arms take Chair Stack Armless.

My chairs aren't stacked. Which cover do I need?

Will it stay on in bad weather?

The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem. Pull it tight and it closes under the bottom chair's feet. If the stack stands somewhere exposed, pick a stronger tie-down : elasticated corners, eyelets for tying to something fixed, or snap buckles round the chair legs.

Won't the chairs go mouldy under a cover?

Much less than a plastic sheet would. Vents high on the cover release damp air, so even the seats deep in the stack can dry. Stacking the chairs dry before you cover them helps, because a wet stack takes longer to clear under any cover. More on condensation and airflow .

Are your stacking chair covers waterproof?

Yes, seams included. Every seam has HydroLok® seam sealing. We stitch each one, then seal it from inside, and rain has no route along the thread. The lighter option is NylonSafe®, built from 380gsm 420D nylon for home and light commercial use. The heavier option is PVCArmour®, built from 550gsm 1000D PVC for exposed sites and commercial use. My stack doesn't match either shape. Is that a problem?

Usually not. Contact us with a couple of photos of the stack, and we'll come back with the measurements we need.

How soon will my cover arrive?

Making starts when you approve your design. Current lead time is 2–3 weeks. The clock starts at your approval. How long the design stage takes is up to you.

What warranty does the cover come with?

What This Is

A custom stacking chair cover is a single waterproof cover over a whole stack of outdoor chairs, made to fit that particular stack.

Stacking is how most garden chairs get put away: one tower in the corner of the patio instead of six chairs spread across it. Cafes, pubs and hotels do the same with their terrace chairs at closing time. One cover over the tower does the work of six.

Why Does a Universal Stacking Chair Cover Never Fit?

Because a universal cover is a box, and a stack of chairs is a staircase.

Each chair sits a little higher and a little further forward than the one under it. The seats climb in steps at the front. The backrests drop away in steps at the rear.

Universal covers come in one fixed size, such as 114 x 85 x 65cm, or by a chair count: fits four to six. Neither knows what your chairs look like. Six slim bistro chairs and six chunky resin armchairs make two very different stacks.

So the box is right in one place and wrong everywhere else. It sits tight over the top backrest and hangs in loose folds over every step below. Water gathers in those folds, and the hem rides up off the feet.

Which is how a cover sold for six chairs ends up stopping short at the fourth.

What Does a Stacking Chair Cover Protect Against?

A stack of chairs left bare takes the weather in places a single chair never would.

Rain in the Top Seat

The seat of the top chair is a shallow dish. Rain pools in it, spills over the front and soaks the seat below.

Damp Between the Seats

Water trapped between nested seats has no air to dry it. Black mould spots spread over seats nobody sees again before spring.

Sun on the Top Chair

UV hits the top chair and the row of backrests hardest. Plastic chalks, colours fade unevenly and resin turns brittle.

Green on the Backs

Tucked in a shady corner, the rear backrests turn green with algae, and white chairs show it first.

Birds Overhead

Droppings land on the top seat, which is the first one anyone sits on when the chairs come back out.

Leaves in the Stack

Leaves and grit fall between the nested chairs and keep every seat in the pile wet.

Which Chair Stack Do You Have?

Two shapes, because arms change the front of a stack. Choose the one that matches your chairs and measure the stack just as it stands.

Chair Stack Armless

For side chairs, bistro chairs and armless resin chairs. The seat edges form the front of the stack, so the front height is taken to the top seat and the rear height to the lowest backrest.

Chair Stack With Arms

For carvers, dining armchairs and resin chairs with arms. The armrests sit proud of the seats and climb with the stack. They set the front of the cover, so the guide measures up to the top armrest instead of the top seat.

Sealed Where the Panels Meet

Rain has no way in at the seams. Every seam gets HydroLok® seam sealing: stitched, then sealed on the inside. The fabric is just as waterproof. Gripped at the Feet

The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem. Cinched under the bottom chair's feet, it holds the cover against the stack instead of perching on top. For a stack in an exposed corner, pick a stronger tie-down: elasticated corners at the four feet, eyelets to tie through, or snap buckles clipped around the legs.

UV-stabilised fabric shrugs off a whole season of sun on the top of the stack. Vents near the top breathe out damp air, giving the seats inside a chance to dry.
