How do I measure for an outdoor table cover?

A table on its own needs three measurements: the length, the width across, and the drop you want down the sides. A table with the chairs tucked under needs those same plan measurements, then the height to the ground with the chairs pushed in, and how far they stick out past the table edge. Each shape has its own guide with the letters marked on a diagram, and the configurator asks for one measurement at a time. Can you make a cover with a hole for the parasol?

Yes. Tell us when you order and we will cut and reinforce an aperture where the pole passes through. If you take the parasol out to cover the table, you do not need one. If you leave it standing through the table, the aperture is the right choice. Either way the hole is the one place on a table cover where water can get in, so it is finished with a reinforced collar rather than a plain cut.

Do you cover the table on its own, or the chairs as well?

Both. If the chairs go away or are covered separately, you want the cover for the table on its own. If they stay out with the table, you want the set version — one cover over the lot, with the chairs pushed in.

Can I have an elasticated hem instead of a drawstring?

Yes. A drawstring hem is standard; choose the elasticated one instead when you configure the cover. Elastic grips under the rim so the cover holds onto the table top like a fitted sheet. Pair it with a short drop and you get a cover that sits on the top alone instead of hanging to the ground — worth it if you only want the surface protected. See the hem and fastening options →

Will a cover scratch a glass table top?

A loose one can. Grit and windblown dirt work their way underneath any cover, and a cover that lifts and shifts in the wind drags that grit across the glass. That is abrasion, and it is why a baggy universal cover can leave a glass table worse than no cover at all. A cover cut to the table sits still, so there is nothing to drag grit across the glass. Brush the top before you put it on and it is a non-issue.

Is a custom outdoor table cover fully waterproof?

Ours is. Both fabrics are 100% waterproof and UV-stabilised — NylonSafe® 420D nylon, or the heavier PVCArmour® 1000D PVC for exposed sites — and both use HydroLok® sealed seams, stitched and sealed internally so water cannot get through the seam lines. Not every cover sold as waterproof is: a fabric advertised as breathable is not 100% waterproof, which is why ours are not breathable and we fit airflow vents instead. A table top is flat, so the cover is supported across the middle and water does not stand on it. Why does a table cover need airflow vents?

Because a cover sitting flat on a tabletop traps still air against it. Timber tops and timber-framed tables hold damp in the grain, and damp shut under a sealed cover is where mould starts. Airflow vents are standard on our shaped covers and let that moisture move. See the built-in features →

Will the cover stay on in high wind?

A drawstring hem is standard and pulls the cover in under the table frame. Chairs tucked under a table are not a solid block, so air passes between the legs and under the seats and can lift a cover from inside. How long does a custom outdoor table cover take to arrive?

Current lead time is 2–3 weeks from design approval. Nothing is held in stock — the cover is cut to the measurements you supply for your shape. We send a design drawing for you to approve before anything is cut, so production starts once you are happy with the fit. Timescales are estimates and can vary with how busy we are, so check with us before ordering if you need it by a particular date.

What warranty comes with an outdoor table cover?

Three years on NylonSafe® or five years on PVCArmour®, as standard. Adding the optional KuvrPlus warranty extension when you configure the cover takes those to five and ten years. A custom outdoor table cover is a waterproof cover made for one table: yours. A garden table on its own, or the whole patio set with the chairs pushed underneath. Any shape, any size — the nine on the configurator are just the common ones. If you can't see exactly what you need, just get in touch.

Why Do Universal Outdoor Table Covers Never Fit Right?

Universal covers come in size bands, each cut to clear the largest table in the band. On anything smaller that leaves excess fabric, and excess fabric does not sit still.

The hem is too wide to pull in under the frame, so wind gets underneath and lifts it. The slack lies in folds on the top, holding damp and grit against the surface it is meant to protect.

Then the parasol. Take it out and the cover spans the table. Leave it standing and we cut an aperture with a reinforced collar, not a slit. Either way, tell us when you order.

What Does an Outdoor Table Cover Protect Against?

Six things, working on the table all year: standing water, sun, damp and mould, wind, frost, and birds and sap.

Standing Water

Over a table alone this is rarely the problem — the top holds the cover up. Over a set it is: the cover bridges between the chair backs with the table sitting lower, so the middle has nothing under it. Water collects there and the weight deepens it.

Sun & Fading

Timber tops silver and split. Painted frames chalk, and sling seats bleach out long before they tear. Sun does all of that on its own, which is why a table left bare through a good summer still ages.

Damp & Mould

Damp shut against a tabletop is worse than rain running off one. Timber holds moisture in the grain and along the board joints. Green and black growth starts there first, so airflow vents let it move instead.

Wind

Chairs tucked under a table are not a solid block. Air passes between the legs and under the seats, so wind gets inside a set cover, lifts it, and lets rain and grit in behind. A hem sized to your real footprint leaves no slack to lift.

Frost & Winter

Water works into joints, screw fixings and splits in the grain. When it freezes it expands and opens them further. Every thaw lets more in, so a bare table comes out worse in spring.

Birds & Sap

Under a tree, a table takes droppings, sap and leaf stain all summer. Droppings are acidic and bite into varnish and paint. That mess is what stops you using the table on the one good evening.
