What This Is

A custom outdoor swing cover is a waterproof cover made from one swing's own measurements. It goes over the whole thing: the canopy and frame of a patio swing, or the bench of a porch swing.

A patio swing is usually the heaviest thing in the backyard, and a porch swing stays hanging where it was hung. Neither gets carried inside for the winter, so whatever goes over it has to keep the worst of the weather off until spring.

Why Don't Universal Swing Covers Fit?

Because each one is made in a single set size, then sold for every swing with the same number of seats.

One buyer's universal outdoor swing cover was made at 81 × 49 × 67 inches and sold for any three seat patio swing. But the size of a canopy patio swing is set by its frame, not its seat. The legs splay out well past the seat at ground level, and the canopy sits highest of all.

A cover that does not match the frame hangs loose in some places and pulls tight in others, and the strained seams give first. That cover was bought in April and trashed in November, its front split open at the corner and the canopy and frame left bare.

Three seats tells you how many people sit on it, not what it measures.

What Does an Outdoor Swing Cover Protect Against?

An outdoor swing cover keeps sun, rain, mold, rot, rust and birds off the whole swing, from a patio swing's canopy and legs to a porch swing's bench and chains. On a patio swing the canopy takes the weather first, because it is the highest and widest part.

Sun on the Fabric

A canopy faces the sky all day, and a porch swing catches the low sun under the porch roof. Canopies, slings and cushions fade first, then go thin and brittle until they split.

Rain in the Seat

Rain runs off a canopy edge, or comes in sideways under a porch roof, and lands on the seat. Cushions and slings soak it up, and water left sitting in a sag stretches the fabric a little further each time.

Mold on the Cushions

Cushions left out stay damp from one shower to the next. Black mold spreads along the seams and the underside, where nobody looks until spring.

Rust at the Hangers

The seat hangs on springs, hooks or chains, from a top bar or a porch beam. That is where rust starts, and it runs down onto the frame or the wood in orange streaks.

Rot in the Wood

Rain soaks into the end grain of the arms and slats and sits in the joints. Wet all winter, the wood turns grey, splits and starts to rot from the inside.

Birds Overhead

Birds perch on the top bar and canopy edge, and nest in porch beams and eaves. Whatever they drop lands on the seat underneath and bakes on when the sun comes back out.

Which Swing Do You Have?

Our outdoor swing covers come in three shapes: a canopy patio swing and two styles of porch swing. Each has its own shape in the instant quote tool, and its own measuring guide. Canopy Swing

A patio or lawn swing: an A-frame with a canopy on top and a 2 or 3 seat bench hung beneath it. It is covered from the top of the canopy down to the feet. If your canopy tilts, measure it in the position you want covered.

Porch Swing (Flat Back)

A porch swing with a straight back and arms, hung on chains from the porch ceiling or a beam. There is no frame around it, so we make the cover to fit the bench itself. The guide also asks where the chains attach and how far apart they are.

Porch Swing (Roll Back)

A porch swing whose slatted back curves over at the top, hung on chains from both arms. Its guide takes the chain fixings front to back and the gap between the chains side to side, as well as the arms and back.

What Happens to an Uncovered Patio Swing?

On a bare swing the damage shows first where you sit and where it hangs: the sling or cushions, the arms and slats, and the chain fixings.

    Tied Down Where It Counts

    The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem. It pulls in around the feet of the frame, or under the seat on a porch swing, so the wind has no loose edge to get under. Will this cover fit my swing?
Yes. We make it from your swing's own measurements, not to a seat count on a packet. Choose your swing's shape in the instant quote tool, measure it with that shape's guide and enter the numbers to see the price. From there, you can request a free design and talk it through with us first, or order straight away. Every order is reviewed either way: we look at your measurements and any photos you send, and check anything that does not add up with you.
What if my swing is not one of the shapes listed?
We can still make it, and that includes gliders. Contact us with a photo of your swing or glider and we will tell you what to measure.
Does the cover go over the canopy?
Yes. On a canopy swing the cover goes over the whole frame, canopy included, and down to the feet. If your canopy tilts, set it where you want it and measure the swing like that. The measuring guide shows each measurement for your shape.
How does the cover fit around the chains on a porch swing?
There is a slit at each point where a chain meets the swing, so the cover goes on with the swing still hanging. Each slit closes around its chain with Velcro, so rain cannot get in where the chains pass through. The porch swing measuring guides take the chain positions, so the slits are made in the right place.
Are your outdoor swing covers waterproof?
Yes. The fabric and the seams are both 100% waterproof, not just shower-resistant. Every seam is a HydroLok® sealed seam: stitched, then sealed on the inside so water cannot get through the seam lines. NylonSafe® is 380gsm 420D nylon for home and light commercial use; PVCArmour® is 550gsm 1000D PVC for exposed sites and commercial use. Compare the fabrics.
Will the cover stay on in a strong wind?
Yes. The standard tie-down is a drawstring hem, pulled tight around the frame once the cover is on. For a cover anchored to the frame, snap buckles fasten it at each frame leg, and its eyelets allow it to be tied to a solid point.
Can I leave the cushions on the swing?
Yes, if that is how you want it covered. Measure the swing with the cushions on or off, and we make the cover to suit. Only cover cushions that are dry: a cover keeps rain out, but it cannot dry a cushion that is already wet.
Will damp build up under the cover?
A fitted cover cuts damp right down. Every shaped cover has built-in airflow vents that let moist air out but keep rain from coming in. No outdoor cover can rule condensation out altogether: it can still form if the swing goes under wet, or on a night when the temperature drops sharply. More on condensation and airflow.
How long will an outdoor swing cover last?
Each fabric carries its own warranty. NylonSafe®, our waterproof fabric for home and light commercial use, is covered for 3 years. PVCArmour®, the heavy-duty fabric for exposed and commercial sites, is covered for 5. The KuvrPlus warranty extension raises them to 5 and 10 years. The warranty page has the full terms.

We ordered 2 x 2.4 x 1.8metre standard panels for the sides of our pergola so we can sit out even when it’s raining. Although ordered at the same time, for some reason the panels arrived a few days apart. This however was not a problem. I also purchased some elasticated straps from FB and with a few cup hooks that I already had , the panels were up in less than an hour. We bought these clear tarpaulins to enclose our open terrace area, and they have been a great addition to the house.  The clear plastic lets in plenty of light, so it doesn't feel dark or boxed in. The zipped door in the middle is super handy for walking in and out without taking everything down.  Looking out in the morning, it makes a huge difference. It traps the overnight warmth and blocks early morning chills, making the space warm enough to sit out in comfortably. They do a brilliant job of stopping wind and rain, keeping the whole terrace dry and draft-free.  Our outdoor sofa, cushions, and artificial grass stay completely dry, so we don't have to drag everything inside when it rains.  It also gives us an extra sheltered spot to sit outside with the lights on, even in bad weather.

They are clear so we can still see out into the garden. Unfortunately you cannot see the far end cover as out rather overgrown Kentia palm is in the way. Initial placement of order a problem quickly resolved by the firm. Have been needing a hot tub cap for sometime as the insulated top allowed rainwater to flow. Nothing available locally (Cyprus), found the firm via internet search. Initially I purchased some plastic sheets from Amazon, put the up and thought 'job done'. The sheets became discoloured, they constantly made a noise as they blew around and in the end they just tore apart. I then decided to do the job properly by looking into professional custom covers.
